We are going to finish beginning-of-year testing and learning the routines of Wonders this week. We have started reading Holes by Louis Sachar. Please do not let your child watch the movie until we have finished! If your family has already seen it, please talk to your child about not spoiling it for the rest of the class. Since this is a short week, there will be no spelling words or reading response required. 20 minutes of reading per night M-F is still required. (Or a total of 100 in any amount any days.) Next week will be the first week for spelling words. If your child has not responded to the homework prompt yet, this week is a good week to catch up.
We are going to finish testing, take a chapter 1 pretest, and work on whatever we need to work on within chapter 1. Next week will be the first week of math journals.
This week focuses on the rainforest habitat! This is a great opportunity to research poison dart frogs in the wild and in captivity. Students are encouraged (but not required) to bring research from home so we can put together a plan about what a frog would need to survive in the classroom. We are also going to start thinking about service learning! We will come up with a topic and ideas about how to start our service learning project.
