Our essential question this week is, "How can you use what you know to help others?" We are working on asking and answering questions, summarizing, and visualizing. There will be no spelling words this week due to the short week.
My students are taking this week to practice multi-step, multi-operation word problems. This has proven to be difficult. Our test retake will be on Wednesday. They took their pretest on fractions and every student in my class has basic understanding of fractions! Way to go! Because of this, we will skip the chapters introducing fractions.
We are starting our unit on heat. My students already know that the main source of heat for Earth is the sun. We are learning what else creates heat, what can be done to prevent machines from overheating, and what things do not create heat but will hold it in.
Valentine's Day is on Thursday! My homeroom class is having a contest for Valentine boxes! This is just for fun and it is not required. If your child wants to participate but does not have a box, please let me know and I can provide one. These should be decorated at home and we will vote for the class favorite in class. I will be sending lists of 3rd grade names home on Tuesday. If your child wants to pass out Valentine cards and/or candy, please make sure there are enough for our homeroom class. If you want to send them for all of 3rd grade, that's great too. This is optional, not required.
