We are working on animal reports. We are currently on the gathering of information step. The end goal is to write a 3-5 paragraph essay. So far, the kids are doing an amazing job! They are researching, reading, writing facts down, and citing their sources!
Wednesday: The kids will take a mid-year Sage test for writing. Writing is generally a struggle for kids, so we want to make sure they're on track!
We are working on multiplying multi-digit numbers by multi-digit numbers. It has been a struggle, but we're getting there! We took 4 days for double-digit by double-digit multiplication instead of the usual one day. Practice at home if you have time! Remember to listen to the math songs on the YouTube section of this webpage if your child is struggling with multiplication facts.
Science/ Social Studies/ Genius Hour
We finished our Genius Hour presentations for January and every child in my class did a great job! Start thinking about the next topic to research and present!
We have been having a blast with rocks and minerals. These kids are amazing and they can tell you a lot about different rock types and the rock cycle! We're finishing up our rock unit this week and next. Our next unit is on Utah wetlands, deserts, and forests!
If your child has been to Utah's wetlands, deserts, or forests, have him/her create something to share with the class! (This is optional, but we'd love to learn from each other!)
My students have decided their service learning project should be on water pollution. We learned that there is a plan to turn the Great Salt Lake into a landfill. My students were not happy about this idea and they came up with the plan to spread awareness about recycling. Some wanted to write letters to our Utah government to urge them to NOT turn the Great Salt Lake into a landfill. Please let me know if you disagree with this and your child will be exempt from writing a letter. We will all contribute to spreading facts about recycling.
